After 14 years of service as the director of Holsby Bible School & Retreat Center, John will be handing over the leadership of the ministry to Luke Thomas. Luke has served as the principal of the Bible school for the last seven years and has a proven heart for ministry and leadership. Together with Cheryl and their three children, the Thomas family is well established and loved in the local community. Luke will take over his new responsibilities in June, at the end of the 2018-19 school year.
John and Christine will be moving to the U.S. and will enjoy being closer to their three daughters and their families. They plan to continue to be active in ministry in association with the Torchbearers.
Over the next months, John and Luke will be working closely together to prepare and coordinate the upcoming transition in leadership. Luke enjoys the full support of the excellent Holsby staff team and the ministry of Holsby will continue to thrive.
The board of Holsby encourages you to be in prayer for both John and Christine, as well as Luke and Cheryl, during this time of transition. We are excited for the future of Holsby and for new opportunities for ministry. By God’s grace and with your prayers and support, Holsby will continue to be a place where Jesus changes lives!
Holsby is an international Bible school located in southern Sweden. We also run camps and retreats throughout the spring and summer months.
Your time at Holsby will give you the needed time and space to slow down and become better acquainted with our Savior, Jesus Christ. We grow in relationship with him through the study of God’s word and the rich fellowship found in a Christ-centered community.
Jesus changes lives and people find true satisfaction. We see this happen year after year as students and guests discover God’s eternal truth, enjoy Sweden’s outdoors and build unforgettable memories of life together.
Holsby’s basketball team, made up of students and staff, is a sports ministry of the full-year Bible school course. The team plays competitively in the Swedish league, as well as exhibition games against local teams.
Sweden has an inviting landscape of forests, lakes and quaint red cottages. It is restful to the soul and endless for one’s curiosity. If you tire of the outdoors, visit Stockholm, the capital of Scandinavia.
Holsby is a truly set apart place: It quickly became the first place that ever felt like home for me, and was the first place I found a family. My relationship with the Lord began during my year in little Holsbybrunn, where the lectures and, even more importantly, my relationships with the students alongside me and the staff guiding me consistently pointed to how in need we all are of our Savior. For the first time, I was exposed to people's imperfect lives truly demonstrating the perfect love of Jesus.
Before coming, I didn’t appreciate the Bible at all. The Bible for me was for one of two types of people - really good super Christians or really old people. I thought this book is not for me. I don’t need to read that. But the more time I actually sat down and opened it up and actually began to read and study it, I came to realize that these stories, this truth, is super relevant to my life. I learned about how incredibly true and accurate this book is. Another thing is that I also have really experienced God’s forgiveness. It’s incredible that he has forgiven me for everything I’ve done wrong in my life.
It was so great to set aside six months of my life to draw closer and learn more about God...My time at Holsby has truly been life-transforming, and has completely changed my understanding of who I am in Christ.
